Generalized Trace Facility. An optional z/OS utility that
records system events, which can be used for problem diagnosis. Events such as
supervisor calls and start I/O operations are recorded. Very resource greedy
(up to 20% of processor cycles) but useful for intractable system
problems.
When problems occur with IBM products, they usaully request
a GTF trace.
First opened a ETR with IBM

Procedure for
Installing TRSMAIN from the IBM FTP site to their OS/390 system.
GTF Proc in USER.PROCLIB (in case you need
to change the trace parameters.
Creates data set called
"SYS1.S11.TRACE"
P GTF
You MUST terse this trace data set and then
download it to your PC using "binary" to FTP to IBM
FTP to: testcase.boulder.ibm.com
Userid = anonymous
Password =
your.userid@whatever.com
Change directory to: /mvs/toibm/
FTP data
Update the ETR at IBMLink. |
