IBM's z/OS website

Effective January 10, 2005, z/OS is available for Internet delivery in ServerPac for orders placed using ShopzSeries. The integration of ShopzSeries with the ServerPac dialogs provides a seamless experience for ordering and installing your ServerPac (z/OS, DB2, CICS, IMS, WAS, and NCP) orders, while leveraging the automation capabilities of Internet delivery with new SMP/E functions.

IBM's zFavorites for System z is a collection of links to helpful System z Web sites. It has links to various interest categories, such as products, product documentation, software and solutions, support and more. Use the navigation bar to the left to select your area of interest.

With z/OS V1R8, we have enabled the operating system to handle 4096 GB (4 TB) of storage.

End of service for z/OS V1.4 and z/OS V1.5 is March 31, 2007 and end of service for z/OS V1.6 is September 30, 2007. IBM encourage you to move to z/OS V1.7 or z/OS V1.8 now! If you're on z/OS V1.4, z/OS V1.7 is the last release you can migrate to in a single step. If you're on z/OS V1.5 or z/OS V1.6, z/OS V1.8 is the last release you can migrate to in a single step.

z/OS V1.9 is planned to be available in September, 2007. There is no z/OS.e V1.9 release. The last release of z/OS.e is z/OS V1.8.

z/OS.e statement of direction z/OS.e V1.8 (5655-G52) is planned to be the last release of z/OS.e. Please note: marketing, ordering, support, and service for z/OS (5694-A01) remain unaffected by this change. There will be no z/OS.e V1.9. z/OS.e V1.8 will remain orderable until its planned withdrawal from marketing in October 2007. IBM intends to withdraw service for z/OS.e V1.8 in September 2009. IBM is providing a new pricing metric for z/OS, System z New Application License Charges (zNALC). zNALC will replace New Application License Charges (NALC) and z/OS.e , and is intended to be IBM's strategic z/OS offering for new workloads. zNALC is planned to be available March 16, 2007.

That means any mainframe that dates prior to 2000 cannot run z/OS V1.9

Requires IBM System z servers z/OS V1.9 requires z/Architecture and only runs on IBM System z9 and zSeries (z890, z990, z800, z900) servers.

z/OS V1.9 will be delivered in September 2007, and it will run on the current System z9 Business Class (BC) and Enterprise Class (EC) servers, which roughly correspond to midrange and high-end servers in terms of raw performance. The software will also be supported on two prior generations of midrange gear--the zSeries 800 and 890--and on two prior generations of high-end mainframes--the zSeries 900 and 990 boxes. That means any mainframe that dates prior to 2000 cannot run z/OS V1.9.

Migration z/OS V1.9 is an important release for all z/OS V1.7 customers because it is the last z/OS release that you can migrate to in a single step. End of service for z/OS V1.7 is planned for September 2008.
